POSITION: QUALITATIVE FIELD INTERVIEWERS

LOCATION: MOMBASA COUNTY

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a premier research-to- policy institution, generating evidence, strengthening research and related capacity in the African research and development ecosystem, and engaging policy to inform action on health and development. APHRC seeks to drive change by developing strong African research leadership and promoting evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) across sub-Saharan Africa.

APHRC invites applications for Qualitative Field Interviewers for the Challenging the Politics of Social Exclusion (CPSE) project. This project focuses on the social exclusion of adolescents, girls, women, and sexual and gender minorities within the context of adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights (ASRHR), post-abortion care, and the rights of sexual and gender minorities. The project aims to explore access to services among sexual and gender minorities in Mombasa County, Kenya

Responsibilities and duties


  • Identifying study participants as defined in the study.

  • Consenting the study respondents before the interviews and group discussions.

  • Conducting interviews, focus groups, and participant observations

  • Note-taking/ fieldnotes and writing debriefing reports for all the interviews conducted.

  • Ensure data quality and confidentiality.

  • Ensuring the safety of data collection tools and equipment assigned.

  • Any other related activity assigned by the project coordinator.

Minimum requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences.

  • Have proven experience and skills in qualitative research.

  • Ability to facilitate interviews and group discussions in English and Swahili.

  • Be a current resident of the target county. 

  • Should possess strong people skills

  • Must be fully available for training and during the entire data collection period

Preferable


  • Experience working with sexual and gender minorities.

  • Ethnographer.
