Position: Regional Finance Director
Location: The Horn and Eastern Africa Regional Office, Nairobi Kenya
Duration: Short Term – 3-4 months
Our client, a leading International Non-Governmental Organization(iNGO) is seeking an experienced Financial Director, for a period of 3-4 months to fill a current staffing gap.
Key Responsibilities:
I. Summary of short-term assignment:
- Oversee the 2025 budget and planning process ensuring completeness and accuracy of the following components for each Country Office:
- Country Funding Plan: Support and review each country office revenue projections and expenses by award.
- Risk Register: As part of the organization’s annual planning process, support the identification of key risks to the organization at business unit level (at country, regional office as well as HQ office department level).
- Together with other consultations, this annual risk and mitigation measure mapping will allow to build a consolidated view of risk across the organization which, in turn, will contribute to building a robust risk management framework for the organization.
- Z1 Spending: Following the new budgeting process, ensure that Z1 budget and spending is being utilized for its intended purpose (i.e. resource mobilization and strategic capacity building.
- Manage treasury forecast process across country offices and report funding needs to HQ :
- Bi-weekly review and sign-off of the consolidated CO treasury funds
- Provide oversight to the Regional Financial Specialists as they complete the updated status of the donor receivable schedule for all Awards (active and closed).
- Map out who needs to follow up on all outstanding donor receivables as per the report from the Regional Financial Specialists.
- Country Office Balance sheet review and mitigation action points to address financial risks.
- Manage the 2024-year end and statutory audit process.
- Other duties as assigned by CFO and Regional Director.
II. Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervises six (6) direct reports including Regional Finance Specialists, Finance Specialist consultants and Regional Finance Manager.
- Carriers out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Work closely with HQ’s Finance Department and the Senior Regional Finance Specialists to provide regular reporting in line with the organisational financial management policies and procedures.
III. Fiscal Responsibilities
- Prepares and administers the annual budget and financial report for the regional/country offices.
EDUCATION, PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or related field, CPA/MBA preferred.
- At least 5 years’ progressive experience in an international humanitarian and/ or development organization. A minimum of four years in a supervisory role, with a preference for experience in financial management in a country and/ or regional position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Excellent English oral and written verbal communication skills including ability to explain organizational policies & procedures and producing of timely, comprehensive and well-written documents.
- Strong networking, influencing and liaison skills and ability to interact with colleagues from various seniority levels as well as external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to establish, maintain and manage relationships with various internal and external stakeholders, and proven ability to successfully manage, coach and mentor others.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, including an ability to plan for multiple priorities, and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances; and flexible approach/ willingness to take on additional tasks.
- Demonstrated experience and/or personal commitment to promoting gender equality within the humanitarian and/or development work.
- Significant experience with business and financial systems, Microsoft Office applications including Excel, as well as database and data visualization software is essential.
