    The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a premier research-to- policy institution, generating evidence, strengthening research and related capacity in the African research and development ecosystem, and engaging policy to inform action on health and development. APHRC seeks to drive change by developing strong African research leadership and promoting evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) across sub-Saharan Africa.

     

    APHRC seeks to recruit qualified Qualitative and Quantitative Field Interviewers to support data collection for its Teach for Kenya Evaluation Project. This study aims to evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of TFK’s leadership-centered fellowship model in improving teacher effectiveness, learner outcomes, and community engagement in underserved communities in Nairobi City, Machakos and Kisumu Counties. Data collection is scheduled to take place in April and May. Only applicants residing in Nairobi City, Machakos and Kisumu Counties should apply.

     

    Qualitative Interviewers

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Consenting the study respondents before the interviews and group discussions.
    • Conducting interviews, focus groups, and participant observations.
    • Note-taking/ fieldnotes and writing debriefing reports for all the interviews conducted.
    • Ensure data quality and confidentiality.
    • Ensuring the safety of data collection tools and equipment assigned.
    • Any other related activity assigned by the project coordinator.

    Minimum requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree preferably in early childhood education.
    • Have proven experience and skills in qualitative research.
    • Ability to facilitate interviews and group discussions in English and Swahili.
    • Be a current resident of the target counties.
    • Must be fully available for training and during the entire data collection period.
    • Experience working in school setting.

    Quantitative Interviewers 

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Commit to attend all days of training and data collection.
    • Obtain and document informed consent from the study participants before the interviews.
    • Conduct and record all interviews held with respondents using digital recorders.
    • Participate in daily debrief meetings.
    • Be a custodian of the APHRC data collection equipment during field work.
    • Observe safeguarding procedures throughout the data engagement.
    • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

    Minimum requirements

    • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate, with a minimum grade of C plain.
    • Experience in electronic data capture methods like survey CTO and devices like electronic digital recorders.
    • Attention to detail to ensure the correctness of all data entered.
    • Resident of the targeted counties.
    • Fluency in English and Swahili as well as local language written and spoken proficiency as an added advantage.
    • Be available to work full-time on the project for the duration.
