  • We are a leading Human Resource Company in Africa providing talent solutions across the region with diverse experience working with cross-cultural teams and organizations. We are currently looking to recruit a Management Accounts Assistant to join our finance and accounting team.

    JOB PURPOSE:

    The individual will support the finance department by preparing, verifying, and maintaining accurate financial records, including journals and reconciliations, and to assist in monthly management reporting. They will contribute to cash flow management, budgeting, and variance analysis, ensuring data integrity for informed decision-making.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

    • Generating the management accounts deck including notes to the accounts for all P&L and Balance Sheet items for Kenya, Uganda and the group.
    • Confirming that all P&L items have complied with IFRS standards (in liaison with the Financial Accountant) especially with regards to forex assets and liabilities, and all other balance sheet items.
    • Perform the consolidation of financial statements for the group, and oversight of the discipline of intercompany-balances-elimination before the books are closed.
    • Prepare business division-wise P&Ls both for forecast and actual basis and thus give assurance as to viability/ROI of each business line, and inputs on how to improve the same.
    • Ensure correct classification of costs between Direct and Indirect costs, and hence the accuracy of reported Gross Profit and GM.
    • Track weekly the business top line delivery against budget and raise early warning signals, supporting the Finance Manager in navigating the business to deliver its targets.
    • Prepare budgets and forecasts for the business on a quarterly basis and report every month P&L tracking vs budget, and where necessary and possible on a weekly basis, especially where the business is tracking very close to the targets.
    • Compute and provide management with forecasted achievement vs targets in terms of which quadrant they fall into, threshold, stretching or outstanding and therefore provide monthly input to the Financial Accountant for purposes of the bonus accrual estimate.
    • Issuing the management reports to the management on time and in full (after alignment and approval) on the due date of 5th of every month (subject to book closure as scheduled).
      • Allow 24 hours to issue full decks coupled with checking and approvals.
      • Ensure maximum automation is activated for purposes of ensuring minimal manipulation of numbers outside of SAGE/ERP, and hence errors.
    • Generate the entity and company operating cashflows & source and use of cash statements as part of the financial statements.
    • Prepare draft management results commentaries for issue to management and ultimately to the board, working with and issuing through the Finance Manager, to produce the finalised documents/papers.
    • Track and compute the average and closing exchange rates (which must be derived from or aligned with the exchange rates signed off by the Financial Accountant and Finance Manager for purposes of closing the entity books, where the currency pairs are the same) ahead of book closures.
    • Derive and verify the average and closing exchange rates for purposes of management accounts consolidation monthly, and get these rates signed off by the Financial Accountant and Finance Manager.
    • Support the Financial Accountant in establishing and ensuring that the reported balances for Assets and Liabilities every period end are properly backed up by signed off reconciliations or supporting schedules.
    • Support the Financial Accountant in ensuring all accounts are allocated to individuals, following up and verifying during the month-end checklist process at an even more detailed level to confirm management accounts of the company are prepared from a robust and fully supported “true and fair” position and view of the state of affairs of the business, and there aren’t big omissions due to unreconciled/unsupported accounts, and where this is the case, these are brought to the attention of the Financial Accountant and the Finance Manager.
    • And any other responsibility that may be assigned by your supervisor. 

    EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

    • A bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting or a related field with a minimum of second-class honours, upper division.
    • Minimum CPA Part 2 (intermediate level) and working towards a full qualification.
    • More than 2 years experience in a busy accounting department in a similar role in management accounting.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Minimum B+ in K.C.S.E and in Mathematics.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Basic understanding of accounting principles and concepts.
    • Familiarity with financial statements, general ledger, and financial transactions.
    • Skills in using Ms. Office applications.
    • Skills in filing, data entry and maintaining accurate and complete financial records.
    • Attention to detail and accuracy in working with numerical data.
    • Organized and punctual.
    • Well-presented and professional.
    • Ability to communicate well in English.
    • Strong work ethic and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
    • Ability to handle sensitive financial information responsibly.
    • Self-motivated and proactive in seeking opportunities to contribute and learn.
    • Adaptability and flexibility to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
