  • Our client is a German-African social enterprise dedicated to providing affordable and innovative building solutions to enhance living conditions in communities throughout Kenya and beyond. Their “change from inside" approach targets critical issues like unemployment, unsafe housing, and insecure land tenure. They have pioneered a new construction method using interlocking hollow concrete "TwistBlocks" that can be tailored to diverse building environments, significantly enhancing accessibility to construction compared to traditional methods.

    Role Objective

    The Factory Operations Manager will oversee production coordination across the three TwistBlock factories in Kibera ensuring efficient, high-quality, and consistent manufacturing processes. The role focuses on production efficiency, process optimization, and quality assurance, working closely with the Head of Engineering & Construction and Production Managers to ensure smooth daily operations.

    This position requires a hands-on, results-oriented professional who can drive process improvements, enhance productivity, and maintain operational consistency in line with established engineering and quality standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Coordinate and supervise day-to-day production activities across all three factories.
    • Work closely with the Head of Engineering & Construction and production managers to align production goals, quality standards, and process improvements.
    • Monitor and optimize production efficiency, resource utilization, and output across sites.
    • Ensure adherence to established quality and safety standards at all times.
    • Collaborate with Business Operations Management on material procurement, logistics, and production scheduling.
    • Provide daily production reports covering output, efficiency, downtime, and challenges to maintain transparency and accountability.
    • Identify staffing or skill needs within production team final hiring to be handled through HR and management.
    • Continuously investigate improvements in production efficiency, output quality and working conditions for employees.
    • Provide monthly updates for senior management.
    • Test production of new prototypes.
    • Integration of new elements in the production workflow.
    • Open and close factory on 6 days per week in Kibera.

    Required Skills & Qualifications.

    • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field ; engineering (industrial or manufacturing), business administration, or supply chain management.
    • Identification with the vision of the client to improve lives in disadvantage regions.
    • Willingness to work daily in the challenging environment of Kibera.
    • Proven experience in manufacturing or production coordination, ideally within concrete or construction materials.
    • Strong technical understanding of production processes, equipment operation, and quality assurance.
    • Excellent organizational and coordination skills with a focus on efficiency and problem-solving.
    • Conversant with excel to analyze production data.
    • Strong communication, teamwork and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
    • Practical, hands-on mindset with the ability to adapt and respond effectively to on-site challenges.
